A picture of moxa sticks
Moxibustion patches are cylindrical long rolls made of white cotton paper wrapped around moxa. They are primarily used for moxibustion, which is one of the ancient medical practices in China, belonging to the external treatment method of traditional Chinese medicine. It can promote blood circulation, invigorate the body, expel dampness and coldness, and is suitable for symptoms such as wind-cold-dampness arthritis, muscle softness, joint and limb pain, cervical spondylosis, and more.
The effects of moxa strips
Apples can help with sleep and assist in stress relief.
Apples can expel wind and cold, raise clearness and lower turbidity, warm the meridians, and unblock the collaterals.
Apples are beneficial for alleviating symptoms of yin deficiency and internal heat pain, such as cold in the uterus and menstrual pain.
Apples can protect the gastrointestinal tract and improve dyspepsia and other diseases.
Apples can prevent influenza and improve immunity.
Basic principle of action
Moxibustion is applied to acupoints, entering the body through heat and kinetic energy, causing a ‘phenomenon’ in the body, activating the meridians to quickly exert the overall function of promoting blood circulation and harmonizing yin and yang. This leads to the unblocking of the five zang and six fu, accelerating blood circulation, enhancing the body’s immunity, and preventing and treating diseases. Moxibustion therapy is simple and easy to operate, suitable for patients to use at home, in combination with medical treatment, to enhance the efficacy, and is also suitable for home health care for the general public.
Classification
One. Moxa strips are divided according to the age of the moxa: aged moxa strips and new moxa. Initially, moxa is new moxa, and after one year it is mature moxa, also known as aged moxa.
Two. Moxa patches are divided according to the smoke they emit: smoky moxa patches, smokeless moxa strips, and micro-smoke moxa patches.
Three. Moxa patches are divided according to ingredients: pure moxa strips and medicated moxa strips.
Four. Moxa patches are divided according to length: moxa patches and moxa cones.
Five. Moxa patches are divided according to the shape they are made into: plum blossom moxa patches, rhombic moxa patches, and moxa tubes.
MoxaIdentification
One. Observe the color of the moxa: Good moxa is off-white with a touch of green and fine gray-black stem particles. Poor moxa is greenish, dark black, with very large and numerous stem particles.
Two. Smell the smell of the moxa: Good moxa has a fragrant and light taste, not irritating to the nose, while poor moxa has a strong and irritating taste, and even worse moxa has an unpleasant smell.
Three. Feel the layering of the moxa: Good moxa feels soft and fine to the touch, while poor moxa has an uneven texture. Good moxa is very easy to clump together, even if the packaging bag is torn off, it will not scatter completely. Poor moxa will scatter when the packaging bag is torn off. The left picture shows a comparison of 5:1, 10:1, and 30:1 moxa. The quality of the moxa can be easily distinguished by everyone.
Four. Feel the fire of the moxa patch: A good moxa patch has a gentle and not intense flame point with strong penetration. A poor moxa patch has a straight flame point with weak penetration and is prone to cause burning sensation.
Five. Observe the burning rate: Moxa patches with a high proportion of moxa are more detailed and fluffy, so they have less residue than moxa patches with a low proportion. Therefore, the burning rate of high-proportion moxa patches is faster than that of low-proportion moxa patches.
This point is often misunderstood by many people, thinking that the burning rate of the moxa patch is too fast and not durable. However, they do not know that the actual effect of a durable moxa patch is much worse than that of a non-durable one. Our goal in making moxibustion is not to treat diseases, but to achieve the effects of health and wellness. Just like a genuine cotton ball and a cotton ball mixed with small stones. When both are lit, it is definitely the genuine cotton ball that burns faster.
Six. Observe the residue after the moxa patch is lit: The residue of a high-quality moxa patch is grayish-white, smooth to the touch, and not easy to scatter. In contrast, the residue of a low-quality moxa patch is grayish-black, scattered everywhere, and rough to the touch with granular substances.
