How to use a manual blood pressure meter
When using a manual blood pressure meter, the patient must first be seated. For example, expose one side, place the blood pressure meter flat, and wrap it around the patient’s elbow pit to a height of about two to three centimeters.
During the measurement, the stethoscope should be directly placed on the strongest pulse of the brachial artery in the elbow pit. First, the screw cap on the air valve needs to be closed, and by slowly inflating into the cuff, the brachial artery pulse can be directly felt until the cause of the pulse disappears. Then, it should be raised to 20 to 30 millimeters of mercury column. At this point, the air can be slowly released to allow the mercury column to drop significantly, enabling a direct line of sight to the blood pressure scale.
When measuring blood pressure, the patient must first be in a state of rest and quiet for more than 5 minutes to avoid affecting the results of the examination.
