Crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone
This product is a milk white or off-white powder; it is almost odorless; it has hygroscopicity. The product is insoluble in water, alcohol, chloroform, or medical ether. The product has a high capillary/water content, a large specific surface area, and strong hydrating ability (HK: 5.6), high and rapid moisture absorption (58.5%), strong moisture expansion capacity, and a solubilization index of 2.25-2.30. It has the same complexation ability as high pressure polyvinylpyrrolidone, and can complex with various substances, such as phenolic compounds, iodine, etc.
Main applications of crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone
Crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone is a water-insoluble tablet disintegrant, used in the immediate compression candy and dry or wet granulation tablet manufacturing processes at a concentration of 2-5%; crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone can rapidly exhibit high capillary specificity and excellent gelation properties, basically without gelation tendency; studies have shown that the particle size of crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone significantly affects the disintegration of antipyretic and analgesic tablets, with larger particles of crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone having a faster disintegration effect than smaller ones. Crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone is an excellent disintegrant, with an application of 1-2% in tablets can achieve the disintegration effect of other commonly used disintegrants, and it also has excellent reprocessing properties, that is, during processing, it does not require the addition of excessive disintegrants, and is called a special disintegrant.
After crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone is used as a disintegrant, the tablet strength is high, the disintegration time is short, and the mixing rate is high; it is reliable and does not easily change over time.
Crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone can also be used as a dry adhesive, filler, and excipient for tablets, capsules, and granules. The finer the particle size, the less likely it is to produce surface patterns in the tablets, improving the uniformity of the tablets. The daily dosage is 20-80 Mg/tablet.
Crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone can also be used as a total mixed sulfurization promoter, utilizing co-evaporation technology, which can improve the solubility of poorly soluble drugs: first, the drug is adsorbed onto crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone with an appropriate organic solvent, and then the organic solvent is volatilized, this technology can achieve rapid mixing rates.
This product is also widely used in the food industry as an auxiliary filter aid in the production of alcoholic beverages and vinegar, used to remove enzymes and protein classes.
Crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyphenols can produce stable complex ions, which can be used in the preparation of water-soluble or alcohol-containing herbal extracts and tinctures, improving the reliability of the green plant industry.
Contraindications of crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone
Crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone is soluble in most inorganic substances or citric acid derivatives, but when exposed to a water-based environmental treatment, it can form synergistic effects with such substances.
Safety coefficient of crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone
Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) crosslinked with chemical agents is generally considered non-toxic and non-irritating. Short-term experiments with small animals indicate that this product has no side effects. However, due to the lack of sufficient direct evidence, WHO has not yet specified its acceptable daily intake.
