Common Meridian and Acupoint Massage Chart

Acupuncture and Moxibustion Therapy is based on the fundamental theory of Chinese medicine’s acupoint, focusing on the therapeutic effects of acupoints and Shu points. It adopts methods such as acupuncture, moxibustion, massage, manipulation, and guidance to regulate the meridians, unblock the channels, and maintain the stable and harmonious function of each internal organ in the body. This promotes smooth blood and Qi flow, maintains health, and enhances the body’s resistance to diseases, transforming the body from sub-health to a state of physical and mental well-being, which is a secret of health preservation.

The following are several acupoints for massage that can treat common diseases throughout the body:

1 Fuliu acupoint – Liushui Dihuang Wan

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the Fuliu acupoint nourishes kidney Yang deficiency, with effects comparable to ‘Liushui Dihuang Wan’ (六味地黄丸), treating fluid metabolism disorders. The Fuliu acupoint has the effects of tonifying kidney Yang and Yin, promoting diuresis and reducing swelling, improving all kidney functions, and eliminating various symptoms caused by kidney dysfunction.

The exact location of the Fuliu acupoint is on the medial side of the lower leg, from the middle of the ankle bone to the direction of the hip, about the width of two fingers. Massage it 3 to 5 times a day, for 2 to 3 minutes each time, to cause a sense of soreness and swelling. It has the effects of tonifying the kidney and Yang, nourishing Yin, and warming Yang to promote diuresis. Regularly massaging the Fuliu acupoint can treat women’s menstrual pain, cold lower body, nephritis, and can also improve the symptoms of insomnia.

2 Taixi, Fuliu, and Yongquan acupoints – Shiqian Da Bu Tang

These three acupoints are the origin of life. Massaging these three acupoints regularly can have a great effect on tonifying the kidney and Yang. Taixi is a major tonifying point on the Spleen Meridian, Fuliu is an acupoint for nourishing the kidney Yang deficiency, and Yongquan is the original point on the Spleen Meridian. First, rub the sensitive acupoint, then rub the less sensitive acupoint. When sick, it can treat diseases, and when not sick, it can strengthen the body. Adding cupping on the Shenshu, Qihai, and Guanyuan acupoints is equivalent to drinking a ‘Shiqian Da Bu Tang’ (十全大补汤).

The Yongquan acupoint, equivalent to the kidney reflex area of the foot bottom therapy, has been called ‘rubbing the sole of the foot hundreds of times before going to bed can prolong life’ since ancient times. Its best effect is that this acupoint can draw blood and Qi downwards, which can treat conditions such as hypertension, nosebleed, headache, asthma, and other symptoms of Qi and blood rising. The effect of applying medicine to this acupoint is the best.

3 Taichong and Yanglingquan acupoints – Jiawei Xiaoyao Wan

Main treatment scope: apoplexy, hemiplegia, weakness of the lower limbs, numbness, swelling and pain of the knee, foot odor, pain in the ribs, bitter taste and halitosis, vomiting, jaundice, infantile convulsions. Now commonly used for sciatica, hepatitis, cholecystitis, biliary ascariasis, knee joint arthritis, infantile chorea, and other conditions.

Before massaging, soak your feet in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes, use the right thumb pad to massage the right Taichong acupoint for 3 minutes, then switch to the left thumb to massage the left Taichong acupoint for 3 minutes, repeating 2 to 3 times. The massage should cause a sense of acidity, swelling, and pain. It is best to do this every morning, afternoon, and evening.

Massage the Yanglingquan acupoint for 1 minute, then use force to horizontally pluck the tendons at the acupoint 3 to 5 times, and a sense of soreness and softness is preferable. Turn it once every morning, afternoon, and evening. Massaging the Taichong and Yanglingquan acupoints can stimulate the Liver Meridian and the Gallbladder Meridian, similar to the effect of ‘Jiawei Xiaoyao Wan’ (加味逍遥丸), and it works faster!

4 Shaofu acupoint – Niuhuang Qingxin Wan

The Shaofu acupoint can activate blood circulation, remove blood stasis, and regulate Qi, with the significant effect of relieving anxiety and calming the mind. Massaging this acupoint is like taking ‘Niuhuang Qingxin Wan’ (C牛黄清心丸). The Shaofu acupoint belongs to the Hand Lesser Yin Heart Meridian, located on the palm side of the hand, between the fourth and fifth metacarpal bones, at the tip of the little finger when the fist is clenched.
