The Dog Days occur between the Small Heat and the Cold Dew, representing the period with the highest average temperature, as well as both damp and cold, and hot weather in the year. Therefore, the Dog Days do not belong to the 24 solar terms. The so-called ‘Dog Days’ refers to the lunar ‘Dog Days’, which is the hottest period of the year.

It can be understood that ‘Fu’ means that the weather is too hot, and it is better to stay still rather than move. However, the Dog Days are often called ‘Fu’ because there are also many cold factors involved.

The Dog Days are the hottest 30 to 40 days in the central region of the year, calculated according to the lunar calendar, roughly between mid-July and mid-August of the Gregorian calendar.

The ‘Fu’ in the Dog Days refers to hiding or潜伏. The ‘Fu’ in the Dog Days refers to ‘fu邪’, that is, the heat evil of the so-called ‘six evils’ (referring to ‘wind, cold, summer, dampness, dryness, and fire’).
