In a strict sense, epilepsy cannot be cured. Most epilepsy can be cured theoretically. About 1/3 of epilepsy patients can be cured with monotherapy, or some patients may not take medication and can be relieved for a long time without clinical attacks. In addition, about 1/3 of patients use monotherapy or effective combination therapy to control seizures, with satisfactory clinical efficacy. Overall, about 70% of patients have a good prognosis. If these patients gradually reduce and eventually discontinue medication after controlling seizures for 2 to 3 years and observe no clinical attacks, they can be considered cured. In addition, about 30% of epilepsy patients are difficult to cure even after reliable treatment and are called intractable epilepsy.

Epilepsy is divided into primary and secondary. Primary epilepsy refers to epilepsy with unclear causes, which may be associated with genetic inheritance. Currently, there is no way to cure primary epilepsy, and it mainly depends on medication to control seizures, and it is generally not possible to discontinue medication completely. Secondary epilepsy refers to epilepsy caused by other diseases, such as brain infection, tumor compression, complications after surgical treatment, and so on. It can achieve the goal of eradicating epilepsy by treating the primary disease. After the primary diseases such as infection control, tumor removal, and postoperative recovery are compressed and eliminated, epilepsy may not occur, and some patients still have epilepsy, which requires long-term medication control.

It is very worrying for children, parents, and patients. We divide epilepsy into primary epilepsy and secondary epilepsy. Primary epilepsy is caused by various causes and requires treatment for the cause, such as tumor removal, and after infection, anti-infection treatment can completely eradicate the root and achieve recovery. In summary, for primary epilepsy, it mainly depends on medication to control, among which about 80% of patients can be controlled. Among them, about 70% of patients can have good control of the disease, and then very few attacks occur. Among them, about 50% of patients have stopped having attacks and have recovered spontaneously.
