The presence of suspended clumps or sediment indicates impurities, with more sediment indicating a greater amount of impurities. Pure honey does not precipitate. Additionally, put a spoon of honey in a cup, add four to five times the amount of hot water to dissolve it, and let it stand for three to four hours. If no sediment occurs, it is pure honey.
4. Water Content Identification:
When honey is dropped on a white paper, pure honey forms a pearl-like shape and does not spread out. However, honey mixed with water will gradually spread out, with the spreading speed indicating the amount of water added.
5. Sugar Content Identification:
Honey mixed with sugar has poor transparency, is not clear, and appears turbid, with a poor floral scent. Honey mixed with brown sugar appears darker, while honey mixed with white sugar appears lighter. Rubbing with two fingers can help determine stickiness; a granular feeling indicates the presence of sugar.
6. Crystallization Identification:
Real honey is usually crystalline and soft, and can be easily kneaded on the fingers, giving a delicate feeling. Fake honey has a denser sediment of sugar, and when kneaded on the fingers, it has a sandy texture.
7. Wire Identification
Insert a red-hot wire into honey; if there is any sticky substance attached to the wire, it indicates that the honey contains impurities. If the wire remains smooth, it means there are no impurities.
